Xanadú Mansion (du Pont mansion)
Avenue De Las Americas, Varadero

In 1927, at the age of 49, French-American millionaire, Irenee du Pont, built his dream retirement home on the highest point of Varadero, complete with a nine-hole golf course. Du Pont selected a 1300 acre plot of land- the property also included an exlcusive beach. He commissioned the two architects responsible for Capitolio to build a 4-story, 11-bedroom house with a private dock. Du Pont named his estate Xanadú, after the exotic palace built by legendary Chinese warrior and conqueror, Kublas Khan. Precious woods were brought from Santiago de Cuba for the ceilings, stair rails and columns, while the floors and bathrooms were done in Cuban, Italian and Spanish marble. Du Pont fled Cuba in 1957 after the revolution. The Xanadu mansion was nationalized, and today it functions as the Varadero Golf Clubhouse, as well as, Varadero's most luxurious property, complete with 6 guest rooms, a second floor ocean lookout & bar, a restaurant featuring fine French dining, and a museum. Each of the six spacious rooms has its own private terrace and features unbelievable classic 1920’s furniture.
